The door lock assembly on front-load washers serves two functions: it signals the control board that the door is securely closed before starting a cycle, and it physically locks the door during operation to prevent opening while the drum spins at speed. When it fails, the machine either won't start at all or traps your laundry inside.
Door lock failures often display error codes — Samsung dL, LG dE, Whirlpool F5 or E1. The lock assembly contains both a mechanical latch and an electrical switch; either or both can fail. In some cases the wiring harness connection to the lock has worked loose.
Our technician tests the lock assembly and its wiring, then replaces the faulty component. On most front-loaders, door lock replacement is a straightforward same-visit repair.
