A dryer that makes loud noises during operation is usually signaling worn mechanical components rather than an electrical failure. The specific sound points to the likely component.
A high-pitched squealing indicates worn drum support rollers or a worn idler pulley — rubber and felt components that degrade over time. A rhythmic thumping suggests a flat spot on a drum roller or an item caught in the drum fins. A grinding or scraping noise often means worn drum glides (the plastic slides that support the front of the drum) or debris trapped between the drum and the cabinet.
All of these components are inexpensive. Our technician opens the cabinet, identifies the worn parts, and replaces them together during the same visit — since opening a dryer is the majority of the labor, replacing all worn drum components at once is the most efficient approach.
