The drum belt wraps around the dryer drum and connects to the motor via an idler pulley, spinning the drum during every cycle. When the belt breaks — which is usually a sudden failure — you hear the motor running but the drum sits still. Some models detect the belt break and shut down completely.
A snapped belt is one of the most straightforward dryer repairs. The belt itself is inexpensive; the labor involves opening the cabinet, routing the new belt correctly around the drum and idler pulley, and verifying the drum rotates freely before reassembly.
While the cabinet is open, our technician also inspects the idler pulley and drum support rollers — components that often wear at the same time as the belt and are inexpensive to replace together if they show wear.
