A gas stove that clicks continuously — even when all burners are off — is one of the most common and frustrating range complaints. The clicking is the spark igniter system firing repeatedly, which it's only supposed to do when you're trying to light a burner.
The most common cause is moisture. When liquid boils over onto the burner, it soaks into the igniter and spark module. The wet igniter creates a partial electrical path that triggers continuous clicking. In most cases, the clicking stops once the igniter dries out — removing the burner cap, cleaning the area thoroughly, and letting it air dry for several hours often resolves this without any repair. San Diego's coastal humidity slows this drying process.
If the clicking persists after drying, the igniter itself has failed and needs replacement, or the spark module (which controls all igniters) has developed a fault. Our technician tests each igniter and the module to identify the specific failure.
