The heating element is the coiled resistance wire inside an electric dryer that generates the heat needed to evaporate moisture from clothes. When it burns out — which eventually happens to every electric dryer — the drum continues to turn but no heat is produced. Clothes tumble through every cycle but come out as wet as they went in.
A burned-out element can usually be confirmed with a multimeter: an open circuit reading means the element has failed and needs replacement. The failure can happen suddenly or gradually — a partially burned element may produce weak heat that takes multiple cycles to dry a load.
Replacement involves accessing the element housing (typically from the front or rear panel depending on the model), removing the old element, and installing the new coil. Our technician carries commonly stocked elements for major brands and can complete most replacements in a single visit.
